Story

In a universe much like our own, humankind has grown and developed to inhabit most of the solar system. Their home planet is still by far the most populous planet, housing hundreds of billions of people. Still, beyond the reaches of the solar system few humans have gone. But things are beginning to change.

The current society is governed by one central organization which mantains social justice, economic prosperity and wide-spread peace. Working with the Central Government is another public institution, the Transportation Authority, which governs all matters of interplanitary travel, as well as some of the major hubs of intraplanet transport.

At the current time several major scientific breakthroughs have been emerging. Just as the Transportation Authority began producing Warp Gates that allow almost instantaneous travel between distant locations, the Central Government has begun development of a experimental new ship which promises to enable effectively faster-than-light travel. The combination of these two technologies will enable travel and possible colonization of distant solar systems.

As the game unfolds, friction arises as the Transportation Authority continues a rapid expantion of systems with Warp Gates, against the strong protest of the Central Government. Soon the Central Government's police forces are spread too thin to cover the expanding empire, thus chaos and anarchy on the outer reaches quickly ensues.
