On the Mend

Greetings, All. I'm not quite jumping around as of yet, though at least I can now walk again--which is nice. Last week was spent primarily decumbent at home in my recliner. For some reason I had assumed I would be able to be up and about a day or two after my hernia repair surgery on Tuesday, June third. The surgery went well though when I finally came to (after a few minutes of simply trying to wake up from the anesthesia) I realized my hopes of an overnight recovery were quite unfounded. I was soon greeted by the smiling faces of my sister, Sandy, and her three excited children, who whisked me back to my apartment and got me settled in for the evening. Then Mandi and Shannon spent the night to keep me company, though I don't think it was too thrilling spending time with me in my vermicular state.

That entire week I spent my time either laying in my recliner or hobbling around the kitchen looking for a quick meal. With the generous approval of my manager took the first few days of the week off work and then worked the rest from home. The entire time I didn't miss one opportunity to take my pain medication. Let me tell you, Hydrocodone sure helps you sleep. I was out most of the time.

So slowly each day I could walk a little more, and feel the aching a little less. And the next week I was mobile enough to return to work. Now after the brief respite from the banausic activities of everyday life, I'm glad to be able to spend the day back on my feet, even if it means I'll spend 8 hours of it sitting at a terminal at work.
