Second Run of the Year

Last week I was finally able to begin running again—It has been nice. Though I am out of shape something fierce, I've been able to put a couple miles of road behind me each time before collapsing back home. A week ago Monday I was so excited to start my first run since my surgery that I paid no heed to the clear skies making a hasty retreat from the on-coming storm clouds. I soon found myself running in a downpour, and though my shoes soon were heavy from bounding through puddles and over small river on the road, I was still thrilled to be able to take to the road again.

I'm not much on watching my weight, much less so my blood presure, cholesterol, et cetera, but I do value highly being in shape. In addition to the health benefits, I find that a jog is a great time to think. Distractions are shut out, and the basic task of keeping going allows for a good silence to think through anything that is going on. It's relaxing.

And there's my pitch for running. Sometimes such simple things can balance life out from every thing else that may be going on. So get out there, don't push yourself too hard, and then after you've had that time to reflect on things, let me know how things are going out your way.
