In the Mood

I got a great double disk Glen Miller collection last week. I had heard Pennsylvania 6-5000 on a Sunday afternoon radio program a while back, and just had to pick this up. It's also got the more famous In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, and Tuxedo Junction, as well as a great big band version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. So that's my pick of the week. Sorry, I have it playing now so I had to write about it.

Besides the music, September has brought other things. An IBM department picnic at a ranch resort, the start of voice lessons, leading Sunday School opening, and joining the church high schoolers for a rally are among them. Though the most enterprising activity this month was a trip to Chicago for the Labor Day weekend. I realized just before the weekend that I had Monday off and had no plans, so since I hadn't seen my college roommates in quite some time and wasn't likely to seem them again till at least the wedding, I called them up Friday evening and set out at eight o'clock for I-80 East.

I got about four hours of sleep at some gas station in Pennsylvania and started up again around 4 AM. (I was cursing that state at the time, though now, much to the thanks of Mr. Miller, we've reconciled.) I finally reach Eric Fang's house in the northern suburbs Saturday afternoon, and promptly took a nap.

That evening we went out and then just hung around. The next day we defied the rain and went to Wrigley Field for a Cubs game, and afterwards BBQ'd at Mike's place. And first thing in the morning I was off, stopping by the city to see my little sister's apartment there.

It was a good time visiting the guys and seeing family briefly as well as the state of my birth--quite refreshing for such a quick trip. And so I challenged Mike, Eric, Dennis, and Nick to road trip out my way some time. And though I've only got a couch for my visitors, if your in the mood, just give me a day's warning to clean up my pad and you're welcome as well.
