A Few Hours in Venice

Early the next morning Jason took us to the train station and saw us off on our way back to Rome. We had a flight early the next morning, but on the way down we decided to stop by Venice.

When we arrived in the city we hopped on a water bus on the Grand Canal headed towards Saint Mark's Square.

We didn't take a trip on one of the many gondolas, but we secured a great seat on the front of our ride.

Just seeing these buildings seemingly floating on the water was well worth the time taken out of our travel day.

This is one of the "bus stops" we cruised up to along our way.

After walking around San Marco (no picture taking allowed inside) Mandi dared to lead us through the labyrinth of streets to another stop along the Grand Canal. We were short on time, and I warned her that everyone I talked to mentioned that getting lost in Venice was an unavoidable part of the experience.

Mandi paid no heed to my to warnings, but it did afford us a much closer look at the city itself, though her eyes were closely glued to our map.

Victory! Mandi celebrates her successful navigation of Venice's streets.

We found seats on the water bus again and headed back to the train station. I think this picture captures Venice quite well.

And after catching our last glimpses of Venice we headed back to Rome. Arriving in the capital city late that evening.

Without too many mishaps we soon found ourselves with Italy behind us and arriving back in America. The sign reads, "Welcome Home, Mandi! (AND STEVE)."

Though it was a great vacation for me, seeing sights I'd only read about before, for Mandi I'm sure it was quite a bit more of an experience heading back home after three years abroad. Mandi and Shannon getting reacquainted.

The End.
