An Update for Those Who Care

Two weeks ago I was all set to write another update. I was going to touch on the sudden streak of warm weather coinciding with my finally getting a budget together. It was going to be inspirational. It was going to be humorous. I was going to proclaim that we can all change, no matter what obstacles stand in our way! It was going to be beautiful.

It was going to be, but it wasn't. The downfall of my early February update started with a small flicker. My monitor, who had served me faithfully for years, was suddenly in the throws of death. After no more than thirty seconds of flashing and changing colors, it was dead. And so were my plans for the week.

That fateful Saturday I had planned to join some people in going to a Supertones concert, but the phone number of my contact, was nicely tucked away in my email account. Throughout that whole week, as I waited for the replacement monitor, I found just how dependent I was on this little piece of machinery. Not only was my only internet/email time reduced to a few fleeting moments at work, but much of what I was working on also resided in my computer. My newly made budget, information on my upcoming Italy trip, half written songs, phone numbers, addresses... I was completely cut off from all I held dear.

Therefore today I have a different message to tell. I was going to relate how I had started running, eating better, and keeping in touch. But now, as I hold this ShopRite cookie in hand, I must instead proclaim apathy and mediocrity. Go on, tell your children: be happy with things the way they are, for you have little hope of making them better.

And so I leave you with some words by quite possibly the wisest man that ever lived.

"I have seen all things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. What is twisted cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted." (Ecclesiastes 1:14-15)

Farewell,
Steven
